Borrowing Materials
To meet the various needs of library customers, Anderson Public Library maintains circulating collections of books, magazines, audio books, DVDs, compact discs, and video games. 
Borrowing Items
Customers who do not have their Library card with them may borrow materials with current photo identification.
Self Check-out
If you don't feel like standing in line, try our self check-out stations. To use the station, scan your library card, and then follow the instructions to check out one item at a time. At the end of the transaction, you can get a printout of your checked out items.
Loan Periods
Most library items can be checked out for an initial of 28 days, although the loan period may be varied for materials in high demand. Limits may be set on the number of items borrowed for materials in high demand or for different borrower types. If no one else has a hold on your items, books can be renewed twice, and CDs and DVDs can be renewed once. If someone has placed a hold on your item, you may not renew it.
Overdue Fees
$1 per day: DVDs, video games
$0.25 per day: New books, music CDs, all audiobooks
Fees may be paid in person at the main library in Anderson or Lapel branch. Cash and checks are accepted at all locations. In addition, Mastercard and Visa credit or debit cards are welcome at both main and Lapel branch libraries. You also may elect to pay fees using our secure Online Payment system.
Lost or Damaged Items
If you damage an item beyond repair, you will be billed the cost of the item plus a $3 processing fee to replace the item. Customers who lose borrowed library materials are charged the list price of the item plus a $3 processing fee to replace each item and borrowing privileges are suspended in accordance with the Circulation of Materials Policy.
Item Limits
You may check out a maximum of 100 items at a time with restrictions on Music CDs (20), DVDs and Blu-Rays (20), Digital Audiobooks and eBooks (10), and Video Games (3).
Returning Items
You may return borrowed items at any Anderson Public Library location; it does not matter where you checked them out. Every library also has an external book drop, so you can return materials after regular library hours.
Borrowing Restrictions
Borrowing privileges are suspended for customers with any overdue items, accrued fees of over $2.00, or fees of any amount over 6 months old. Fees over 6 months old must be paid in full to reinstate borrowing privileges. Accounts with unpaid fees of over $10.00 may be sent to an outside agency for collection. Any fees related to non-sufficient fund checks returned to the library will be added to the customer’s account. Customers must be fourteen years of age or older to borrow compact discs from the adult music collection, and video games. Customers must be eighteen years of age or older to borrow DVDs.
