The Main Library has more than 60 computer workstations and an ADA (American Disabilities Act) computer station on the first floor. The workstations are available to library customers during normal library hours, with exception of brief scheduled training sessions.  Additional computers are located on the second floor in the Indiana Room (reserved for genealogy research only) and the Children's Department (reserved for children ages 12 and under).  Library guests without an APL card can request a temporary guest login for computer access.

Our public desktop computers run Windows 7.  All of our computers are equipped with USB ports, and many have DVD-ROM burning capability.

Software available on the computers include:

  • Microsoft Office 2010 products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher
  • Internet browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome
  • CD-ROM and DVD-ROM burning software
  • Windows Media Player and iTunes for music
  • Games, including Solitaire and FreeCell
  • Adobe Reader for viewing PDF files
  • Microsoft Paint for drawing and photo adjustment

Printing

There are several printing stations throughout the Main Library: two print stations on the first floor, one in the Indiana Room, and one in the Children's Department.  Library customers have the option to print documents in either Black and White ($0.10 per page) or Color ($1.00 per page).  You may also print from your laptop or other mobile device using the APL wireless network.

Scanning

The Main Library has two public scanning stations for scanning documents or pictures.  Stations are located on the first floor near the copy machines and on the second floor in the Indiana Room.  The scanners may be used free of charge.  Customers have several options when using the scanner: scan and send via email, scan and save to USB drive, or scan and send to printer (normal printing fees apply).

ComputersFree Computer Classes

Please visit the Computer Classes calendar for class descriptions and to register for scheduled classes.

Wireless at APL

APL provides free wireless access for our customers. You can use your laptop or mobile device on our network from most locations within the library.  The closer you are to the Access Points, the stronger the signal will be.
